Basic Tan Maintenance and Tanning Processes

Q:  Is it okay to shower after I tan?
A:   Yes, it is okay to shower after a tan, however bathing dehydrates the skin. Your skin tans up to 48 hours. Therefore, during this time, it’s important to keep your skin hydrated, so be sure to moisturize the skin immediately after showering to prevent any moisture loss.

Q:   Is my regular moisturizer the same as an indoor tanning lotion?
A:   No, a moisturizer’s sole purpose is to add moisture to the skin. Indoor tanning lotions moisturize the skin, accelerate and maximize your tanning session, contain vitamins and anti-oxidants to nourish and repair the skin.

Q:  Why do my legs take longer to tan?
A:   Everyone has an area of their body that is more difficult to tan than others. The skin’s level of melanin production is much lower in this part of your body than others. However, there are many lotions that can help stimulate more melanin production in these areas. Just ask a California Waves certified professional when you visit the salon, and we will be happy to help.

Base Tans and Sun Protection Factors (SPFs)

Q:  What are the advantages of building a base tan before my vacation?
A:   Our bodies have the ability to develop a natural Sun Protection Factor ( SPF) of 4, which means that with a dark base tan, your natural skin will allow you to stay out in the sun four times longer than without a tan. Additionally, with a base tan, you’ll look amazing in your swimsuit as soon as you hit the beach, without running the risk of burning on the first day, and spending the remainder of your trip recuperating.

Q:  Which is better, a natural SPF or the SPF found in lotions?
A:   There is a lot of controversial information about the chemicals found in SPF lotions, a natural SPF is much healthier for the skin than a chemical solution that is absorbed by our blood through our skin. Do your research when choosing and SPF, especially when choosing one for your children.

A:   No, your point packages never expire.
